Unique Programming:  Algonquin College in the Ottawa Valley takes full advantage of its location to deliver programs you won't find anywhere else--programs such as Outdoor Adventure and Outdoor Adventure Naturalist which challenge students in practical disciplines such as climbing, kayaking and rafting, and the business training to make it all marketable.

For over 35 years, the Pembroke Campus has also been home to the Forestry Technician Program--delivered with the same hands-on approach that has made this College a leader in outdoor programming.

Small, Friendly Campus:  If the outdoors isn’t your ticket, you can enroll in many other programs such as Social Service Worker, Motive Power Technician, or Police Foundations.  We also offer the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree program in collaboration with the University of Ottawa.

APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING

The service sector employs more people than any other sector, making up nearly 3/4 of all employees in Ontario. Cooks play a major role in this sector and are employed in a wide range of jobs, from personal and business chefs to tourism and hospitality restaurant operations.

To meet the demands of the marketplace, the food and beverage industry is establishing professional standards and training, and offering competitive salaries to attract dedicated and creative people.

Algonquin College's Cook Apprenticeship program is offered through evening courses on a part-time basis and ensures that students are prepared to enter this sector of the labour market.

Students will prepare complete meals and individual dishes, plan menus, estimate food requirements and costs, and monitor and order food supplies.  Communications and math skills are also taught to our students, and individuals learn to work in a team atmosphere and under pressure.

Cook Apprentice Certificate Program In addition to the Cook program, the College also offers other apprenticeship programs including Automotive Technician, Electrician, Carpentry, and Construction Craft Worker.
