Take Advantage of our Co-op Programs and learn why it pays to study in a co-op program!

Our co-op programs feature 45 weeks of in class learning, plus a summer co-op experience. It means your journey to earn your diploma is about 60 weeks long, much shorter than it normally takes to earn a 2-year college diploma. We've set up our co-op programs so that our students graduate before the spring rush of new graduates, meaning they have a leg up on getting started with their job search.

The following programs offer co-op to students and employers. You can learn more about these programs by clicking on their titles:

Business

Computer Systems Technician

Motive Power Technician

Outdoor Adventure Naturalist

Co-op is one of the most valuable assets of a college education. Students earn while they learn and make contacts within their field that often position them for employment upon graduation. Six students in the Computer Systems Technician Co-op Diploma Program recently secured full-time employment with Canada RevenueAgency as a result of their co-op experience within the federal government. It's just one example of how Co-op pays off! Student Application for Co-op

Algonquin College in the Ottawa Valley values workplace experiences for our students. We have four programs at our Pembroke Campus that offer students the opportunity to work within their field to gain invaluable experience while also earning a pay cheque.  They include the Computer Systems Technician, Business, Motive Power Technician Apprentice, and Outdoor Adventure Naturalist programs.

Here are some key features of our co-op programs:

  • tire changingTo be eligible for co-op, students must maintain a high academic standing in their first term of studies.  Co-op is optional with the exception of the Motive Power Technician
    Co-op Apprenticeship Diploma
which has a mandatory co-op experience for students.

  • Students must apply for a co-op experience and while the college makes every effort to help the student secure a placement, it is not guaranteed. Co-op is a partnership between the student, the college and the employer and all parties must do their part to make it a successful program

  • Co-op placements are usually for a minimum of 14 weeks

  • Co-op placements in the Computer Systems Technician, Business, Motive Power Technician Apprentice and Outdoor Adventure Naturalist programs take place during the summer months.
