A Virtual Desktop Explained             specs    faq    glossary

Normally windows and your programs are installed on your computer and appear in the monitor when they are running. A virtual desktop is where the windows desktop and programs you see are run remotely on a server but appear on your monitor as though running on your machine

Advantages:

- You don't have to buy programs for you computer since they are available through the virtual desktop.

- You don't need to upgrade your computer since the program does not run there. It runs somewhere else and is just displayed on your computer.

- Program upgrades are all done automatically - zero maintenance. Everything is maintained by Algonquin college

- It should be faster than your normal desktop.and programs

- Where ever you access this virtual desktop it will appear as it did last time. Even if you switch computers there is no visible change.

- Similar to Citrix Metaframe (or Algonquin Apps) which you may be familiar with.
