Community Employment Services


Employment Ontario is a network of organizations throughout the province that provides employment assistance to individuals who are looking for work or re-training opportunities.  Algonquin College Community Employment Services is based in Pembroke and provides support to an area that includes the City of Pembroke, Laurentian Valley Township, and parts of Whitewater region.  Individuals who are seeking assistance in finding work are welcome to use the service, regardless of their address, however there may be an Employment Ontario agency closer to their home.  Our staff will provide you with this information when you make contact with us.

Algonquin College Community Employment Services is funded by the Government of Ontario and is open to people of all ages, regardless of their employment status.

Employment ResourcesSome of the Many Services That Are Provided by Our Organization Are:

- Assistance with developing an action plan that will help you clarify your career and

  employment goals and offer you the ongoing support you will need as you pursue

  new opportunities

- Help with building or updating your resume to make sure it captures your skills and

  attributes that will be attractive to a potential employer

- Support in completing applications such as Second Career, college and university

  applications, Job Connect Summer Jobs Service for students looking for summer jobs,

  and our Employment Services application that supports individuals who are out of school

  and working less than 20 hours a week

 

Employment Resources

- Access to our Employment Resource Centre where you can research

  jobs on our high-speed Internet network, get assistance with building

  your resumes and crafting new cover letters, or review our resource

  materials that offer up-to-date strategies on effective job searches or

  labour market trends


- Helpful workshops and short training sessions that help you gain

  confidence as you learn new things that can give you the edge when

  applying for jobs or preparing for interviews

- Financial support to help pay for things like clothing needed for work,

  tuition to return to school for re-training, travel expenses to attend work,

  child care support, etc. (Note: Not all clients are eligible for this service.)


- Apprenticeship signing bonus for those who return to education to

  ensure they meet apprenticeship training requirements and then

  successfully secure an apprenticeship training placement

-Industry Recognized Certifications that add to your resume and make you

 more attractive to employers. This training is offered through on line modules and includes WHMIS, Fall Protection   Awareness, etc. (Note: Not all clients are eligible for this service.)

All of these resources are available free to those who choose to use our service.

The local offices of Service Canada provide information for both employers and job seekers on a wide range of labour market issues.  The following locations have local offices:

    - Renfrew County:  Arnprior, Pembroke, & Renfrew

    - Lanark County:  Carleton Place, Perth, & Smiths Falls

SUMMER EMPLOYMENT

 

 

Job Connect Summer Jobs Service
This program helps young people between the ages of 15 and 24 find a summer job.

The program is open to all high school, college, and university students who will be returning to school in the fall.   Eligible employers are offered a wage subsidy to help cover the costs of employing students.

This program is also delivered by Algonquin College in both Renfrew and Lanark Counties.

Rural Summer Jobs Service
This program helps students between the ages of 14 and 24 to find jobs in rural Ontario from April to September.  Opportunities exist for businesses and community organizations to receive a subsidy to hire students for up to 16 weeks.   This program is provincially funded and is delivered by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs.

Summer JobGovernment of Canada
The Summer Work Experience (SWE) program is delivered in partnership with various groups in the private, public, and not-for-profit sector and is aimed at providing summer employment opportunities for students between the ages of 15 and 30.  Among the programs offered are the Summer Career Placement Initiative and Service Canada Centres for Youth.  Wage subsidies for employers are available.
