The following courses have been developed for the Canadian Overseas Mentorship Experience. Each course has been approved for a General Education College Credit, which can be transferred to other Canadian educational institutions. GEN0235 Learning Through Mentorship (for the Mentee)In this course students explore formal mentorship as an educational tool in Canadian society. Through a mentoring partnership with a senior person active in their industry in Canada, students explore alternative ways of learning in the Canadian workplace. They examine issues of diversity, values and ethics, and explore communication styles needed for building successful working relationships in Canada. By reflecting on their own experience with mentoring and through interaction with colleagues, students develop principles and skills that they may apply to their personal lives. GEN0234 Connecting Through Mentorship (for the Mentor)As a mentor you can chose to take this course for credit or audit the course as a guiding tool for the mentoring experience. This course examines the role of formal mentorship from the perspective of an experienced Canadian worker interested in understanding the role, responsibilities and limitations of the mentor role as an educational tool. Through a mentoring partnership with a person new to their industry in Canada, participants explore mentorship as an alternative way of learning in the workplace. They examine issues of diversity, values and ethics, and explore communication styles needed for building successful working relationships. By reflecting on their own experience with mentoring and through interaction with colleagues, participants develop principles and skills that they may apply to their personal circumstances. |
