Applied Museum Studies – Conservation Department
The Applied Museum Studies (AMS), Conservation Department is very pleased to announce this year’s recipient of the 2010 Canadian Association for Conservation’s Emerging Conservators Award.
This National Award recognizes the dedication and outstanding potential of a future conservator in a Canadian conservation training program. Recipients of this award will be celebrated for their accomplishments and leadership demonstrated during full time studies leading to a degree or diploma in any area of cultural property conservation.
Megan McIntosh, a third year student of the AMS program has been awarded this very prestigious award. Megan is the first AMS student to be awarded the CAC’s award for emerging conservators.
Megan has demonstrated her commitment to the field of conservation by volunteering as the Chair of the Publications Committee for the 2010 CAC National Conference and the Publicity Chair for Arti-Facts the CAC Public Outreach Program. Megan was also the Lead Researcher for the National Capital Commissions “Kick Renewal Project”. This project required Megan to conduct research of current standards in environmental norms for institutions engaged in the interpretation and presentation of cultural property. Megan was also involved in the launching of several data loggers, their installation and retrieval of data. The information captured as part of the assessment was used by Megan in the creation of a Conservation Assessment Report which will be utilized by the NCC in raising their level awareness about the need to achieve conservation standards when interpreting and displaying objects of cultural significance to visitors of the National Capital Region.
Please join the faculty, students of the AMS program and the conservation community from across Canada in congratulating Megan on this remarkable accomplishment.
